About the Item
Clear Murano glass bullicante bowl with protrusions to the exterior. Extremely heavy and a beautifully made piece which would serve well as a decorative bowl or vide poche. Attributed to Barovier & Toso. In excellent vintage condition with no faults.
Hand made in Murano, Italy in the early to mid-20th century, the bullicante technique results in bubbles visible in the glass. This effect is achieved by placing a piece of molten glass inside a metallic mould with spikes. The spikes puncture the surface creating a pattern on the glass. Once cooled, the piece is submerged in molten glass again. Due to the thick consistency of glass, the holes previously impressed on the first layer are not covered, thus causing air to be trapped between both layers of glass.
Note: Vintage items may exhibit wear consistent with age and use.
