Early Art Deco German Ceramic Set of 6 Blue and White Nesting Bowls G.M.T. Co.
About the Item
Extremely Rare Early Art Deco German Ceramic Nesting Bowls – Set of 6 by G.M.T. Co. (Gustav M. Thurnauer), Circa 1920s
This exquisite and highly collectible set of six Early Art Deco nesting bowls was produced in Germany by G.M.T. Co. (Gustav M. Thurnauer Company), a maker known for fine ceramic and porcelain household wares in the early 20th century. Each bowl is marked "G.M.T. Co. Inc. 1060 Germany" on the underside, confirming its authenticity and German origin.
The bowls are finished in a luminous white glaze and adorned with a bold cobalt blue geometric pattern repeated on all sides—a striking design that reflects the influence of early German Art Deco aesthetics. Their graduated sizes allow them to nest perfectly, showcasing both functional ingenuity and visual harmony, a hallmark of design movements like the Deutscher Werkbund and the emerging Bauhaus ideology of the period.
Founded in the early 1900s, Gustav M. Thurnauer Company produced ceramics primarily for export, especially to the American market, where demand for modernist European design was growing. This set represents a transitional period in decorative arts history, where traditional craftsmanship began to merge with the geometric, industrial influence of modernism. Nesting bowl sets such as this were essential in German households of the 1920s and 1930s, used for baking, mixing, and preparation while also valued for their decorative appeal. The clean, utilitarian lines made them popular in both domestic kitchens and professional culinary environments.
This set is in overall good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There are irregularities present such as thinning or missing glaze, cracks in the glaze, and small indentations—one of which appears to be a chip, but is glazed over, indicating it likely occurred during the firing process. These imperfections are typical of early 20th century ceramic production and add to the character and authenticity of the pieces.
A rare surviving example of early German Art Deco ceramic design, this set is ideal for collectors, design enthusiasts, or anyone looking to incorporate museum-worthy decorative kitchenware into their space.

1930's German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll
Located in Red Lion, PA
Stunning 1930s German Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll with Rococo Hairstyle
This exquisite 1930s German porcelain half doll captures the refined beauty and timeless glamour of the Art Deco period, paired with the romantic influence of 18th-century Rococo style. Rendered in fine porcelain with exceptional attention to detail, this rare figure is a striking example of German artistry at its peak.
Her delicate features are simply enchanting — bright blue eyes accented by soft blue eyeshadow, rosy cheeks, and vivid red lips, all hand-painted with precision. Her ornate updo evokes the powdered wigs of the 1700s, gathered high with an elegant bow at the back and a tiny tiara perched at the front, nodding to both historic elegance and theatrical flair.
What sets this figure apart is her graceful, outstretched arms, posed in a fluid and balletic gesture, capturing a moment of poised movement. It’s a pose both sculptural and expressive, and one rarely seen in typical half dolls. Her condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or signs of repair. Here delicately painted features remain vivid after nearly a century.

1935 Art Deco Blue Hall China Refrigerator Pitcher with Lid – Made for Westinghouse, Museum Quality
An exceptional example of American Art Deco kitchenware, this 1935 Art Deco refrigerator water pitcher was made exclusively for Westinghouse by the renowned Hall China Company of East Liverpool, Ohio. Stamped clearly on the base, the mark reads: “Made Exclusively for WESTINGHOUSE By / The Hall China Co. MADE IN U.S.A.”—a detail that speaks to the collaboration between innovative appliance manufacturers and American ceramic producers during the golden age of modern design.
This pitcher showcases a curved geometric Art Deco silhouette, with smooth, streamlined contours and a functional yet elegant matching lid, both finished in a rich, vibrant solid blue glaze. The style reflects the modernist ideals of the period—sleek, stylish, and made for the evolving needs of 1930s households as refrigeration became a staple in American homes.
Produced as part of a specialized line of refrigerator ware for Westinghouse, this pitcher would have been used to store and serve chilled water. Hall also created a range of complementary pieces, including leftover containers in coordinating styles and colors, making this part of a now highly collectible and historically significant body of work.
What sets this piece apart is its pristine, museum-quality condition—appearing completely unused, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or signs of wear except the most minimal wear at the base. It's a truly rare find for collectors of vintage Hall China...
