About the Item

This beautifully hand-crafted Scandinavian modern merlot red stoneware decorative bowl by Andersson & Johansson, Höganäs, features an organic shape with a flat outer surface. Inside, intricate lines spiral inward in smaller circles, while the spaces between the lines are filled with rows of dots, all in relief and pleasing to the touch. It showcases a stunning glossy glaze in a rich merlot red. The dish is marked underneath with deep stamps reading "Höganäs," along with the logo for Andersson & Johansson, used from 1920 to 1958. Handmade in Sweden, it is designated as "Eldfast," meaning ovenware. Founded in 1909 by Johannes Olofsson and Sigfrid Johansson, Andersson & Johansson (Höganäs Keramik) began by producing utility and household items, similar to those made by Höganäsbolaget but with a more colorful palette. Notably, they crafted the iconic yellow "Höganäskrukorna" along with many decorative objects and miniatures designed by John Andersson. After acquiring Nyman & Nyman in 1956, the company was renamed Andersson & Johansson - Höganäs Keramik. Following a name change of Höganäsbolaget to Höganäs AB in 1967, Andersson & Johansson shortened their name to Höganäs Keramik. In 1988, Höganäs Keramik merged with the newly formed Boda Nova, and in 2008, the Swedish factory was closed. Today, Höganäs Keramik is owned by the Iittala Group in Finland.
