Nybro glasbruk Nybro Glasbruk's factory buildings were built in 1946, and is still in use with 13 employees working for Nybro Crystal AB. Yet the history started earlier. For a few years in the 1930s, many glassblowers were unemployed, but a man named Mr. Mellström was very driven. During the Great Depression he together with the glassblowers, started Mellström AB Kemisk-tekniska glasfabriken 1935, later renamed AB Nybro Glasbruk. The first factory was located in a wooden factory building at Emmatorp in Nybro. Production lasted during the late 1930s and 40s, during this time they focused their production on drinking glasses, small plates and other kitchen products. Soon they also started producing art glass and hired several artists and designers such as Rune Strand, Peter Leek and Anders Lindblom. Their motto was beautiful things in a beautiful home. This has rendered them a special status among all the Swedish glass production, their crystal always holds a very high quality, with original design and very contemporary, especially when it comes to mid-century modern classics.
