About the Item
Offering a pair of Peking glass bowls with original stands, circa 1940s. These lovely bowls are made of white translucent glass and have carved red overlay designs and are from the Chinese Republic Period.
The designs include traditional Chinese motifs of birds, pomegranates, leaves and branches surrounding the perimeter of the bowl. This particular pair is considered a "book-matching" pair meaning they were manufactured at the same time and have reverse images, meaning that you can place the birds facing one another or facing away from one another. The original wood stands are included.
This elegant pair of art bowls will make a luxurious statement on a mantelpiece, display shelf or curio cabinet. Perfect for a glamorous Palm Beach style home that loves to incorporate Chinese antiques into its interior design. Of course, will look great in an Asian or Chinoiserie style home

History and Origin:
Qing Dynasty (1636-1912): Peking glass emerged and flourished during the Qing Dynasty.
Imperial Workshops: The establishment of Imperial glass workshops in Beijing (then Romanized as Peking) in the late 17th century, particularly under the Kangxi Emperor (1662-1722), marked a significant advancement in Chinese glassmaking. European Jesuit missionaries played a role in introducing new glassmaking technologies to China. Peking glass bowls are not just decorative objects; they represent a fascinating blend of Chinese artistry, technical skill, and cultural history and these glass making techniques were produced well into the Republic of China period. (1912-1949)
