About the Item

Very rare six Scandinavian Modern small unique bowls in beautiful ox-blood and blue glaze by Friedl Holzer-Kjellberg for Arabia. Friedl Holzer-Kjellberg, 1905-1993, was a Finnish ceramicist best known for her production of the white "rice porcelain" inspired by the methods and shapes of Chinese ceramics for Arabia. Her work was characterized by a combination of elegance and technical skill, and she became a pioneer in ceramic art in the Nordic region. Regarding red and blue glazes in her ceramics, these colors are less common in her works compared to the classic white "rice porcelain" for which she is most famous. However, in the later part of her career, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, Holzer-Kjellberg experimented with other glazes and color palettes, where ox-blood and blue glazes may have been used in her more unique, artistic pieces. These glazes gave her items a richer and more varied expression, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Her use of different colored glazes reflects a general trend among ceramicists of that time, with an increased interest in exploring new techniques and colors in ceramic art. The red glaze could highlight warm, earthy tones, while the blue glaze provided a cooler, more sober expression. Signed at the base.
