About the Item

This stone mortar is a traditional Turkish cooking tool, designed to grind spices, grains, and other ingredients to create blends and pastes for authentic Turkish meals. A ""dibek mortar"" is larger than a ""havan mortar,"" making it an ideal vessel to grind fresh coffee beans before enjoying your ritual cup. This dibek features two wide, curled handles and an undulating ring that circles the exterior. Turkish coffee grounds are said to hold mystical qualities, and the dibeks that they are ground in have become part of the lore. If you see a group of friends in Turkey enjoying coffee, you will notice upturned cups, resting on its saucer. The patterns formed in the grounds are sparks of divination. The Dibek then, is a tool for untapping taste and sipping your way to clarity. *One-of-a-kind and marked by time, each of these pieces will show patina and natural imperfections. From oil stains to oxidation, we consider these alterations to be portals into a time long ago.
