About the Item

A very nice blue and white dish, in the style of similar Ming period Late 17th century pieces. Decorated in underglaze blue. On the plate are two birds on a rock on the ground looking at two birds flying above them. The wall is divided into eight wide panels, separated by narrow striped panels. These narrow panels are filled at the top and bottom with underglaze blue, partly covered by dark blue scale work, with a hanging loop motif in the middle. Four of the wide panels are filled with a large flower, the others with a schematically drawn symbol, probably a flycatcher with a bottle or a flycatcher with a leaf. On the back are leaf branches. It has a nice mark at the base. Edo period. Condition 1 hairline from rim and some small firing flaws. Size: 34.5x6.3CM DiameterxHeight Period 17th century 18th century Edo Period (1603–1867)
