About the Item

Borrowed Forms takes on loan shapes of the natural world and translates them into domestic objects. Rocks, charred wood, and forest debris from the Pacific Northwest are selected for form and texture, and their impressions are captured in poured jewelers wax. The wax leaves no trace behind as it peels away—an impactless intervention, as if nothing ever occurred. Each resulting cast bronze vessel is unique, a direct portal to the form it is drawn from. Borrowed Form #10 was cast in the Walbran Valley on Vancouver Island in Canada. Dimensions: 5" x 4.25" x 1.5".

Wood-Fired Hand Built Bowl with Shino Glaze
By Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Located in New York, NY
This small hand built ceramic bowl is truly unique, from the rustic hand formed shape to the surface treatment. It was wood-fired in an "Anagama" kiln in Upstate New York, a traditional Japanese kiln. These kilns are made of special bricks built on a slowly slanting hillside with several firing chambers. Wood must be added to the fire over several days and nights. Heat and smoke from the ash swirls through the kiln, landing almost randomly on the work. Depending on its location in the kiln and any glaze that was applied, the effects can vary widely. This piece has a traditional Shino Glaze...
