About the Item

We offer for sale an Ashtray, as you can see from the lateral slots designed to hold 2 cigarettes per side but, in case you are not a smoker like me, to be used as a Vide-Poche on an entrance console. Made in Italy around the 70s, this item has an unmistakable design for lovers of mid-20th century Italian design. Limiting the items designed by Roberto Rigon for Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte to everyday objects is really reductive, they are real ceramic sculptures, characterized by unusual and innovative shapes with essential colors, maximum 2 colors, which have the function of enhancing these shapes not decorating them. The item we offer is made in shades of brown, on a tan background, earthenware colored marbling marks the perimeter and highlights the structural lines. The item is in good vintage condition, intact and free of chips.

Italian Handcrafted Mid Century Modern Decorative Dish in Raku Style Ceramic
Located in Roma, IT
Large handcrafted ceramic centerpiece dating back to the 1970s. Of certain Italian production but of unknown manufacture, this large plate shows a signature engraved on the base consisting of two intertwined letters "FS" that we have not been able to attribute to a ceramist or a manufacturer. the design of this centerpiece is essential, with an almost primitive shape that appears as a large bowl with low edges. The surface is rough and textured on the outside and very smooth with a crackle effect on the inside recalling Japanese Raku ceramics...

Midcentury Travertine Ashtray in the Style of Fratelli Mannelli, Italy, 1970s
By Fratelli Mannelli
Located in Roma, IT
Sculptural Ashtray attributable to the historic company Fratelli Mannelli, specialized in the processing of travertine. Known for its collaboration with the designer Enzo Mari, who designed a series of stylized travertine animals, this Manifcaturer has also produced many other furnishing elements such as ashtrays, coffee tables and lamps. The ashtray that we offer for design and material seems to be part of this vast production of this manufacturer. The ashtray has a classic quadrangular shape but the distinctive element that distinguishes it and makes it more similar to a sculpture than a simple ashtray is in the handmade carved elements. There is a small central basin that connects with those created to be able to place the cigarettes laterally, but above all the lines that intersect each other as in a sound sculpture by Pinuccio Sciola.
