About the Item

Description: A magnificent example of Murano's glassmaking excellence, this large ashtray or emptier embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of mid-20th-century Italian design. Flavio Poli (1900-1984) for Seguso Vetri d'Arte is strongly defined by his distinctive submerged glass technique, which they perfected and made famous. The object features layers of glass of different shades that blend harmoniously, creating an extraordinary effect of depth and brightness. In this piece, a vibrant turquoise blue overlays a transparent layer, dramatically capturing and refracting light. The organic, sinuous shape, with its enveloping curves and fluted edge reminiscent of flower lobes or sea waves, is typical of Poli's production, which loved to explore the sculptural possibilities of glass. The wide, solid base lends stability and a sense of opulence. Perfect as an elegant living room ashtray or as a refined emptying tray at the entrance, this piece is not only functional but also a sculptural work of art in itself. It fits beautifully in a Mid-Century Modern furnished setting, but is versatile enough to blend gracefully into more contemporary settings as well, adding a touch of color, history, and iconic design. A collector's item that represents an investment in the heritage of Murano glass design.
