He often appeared as a winged infant carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows whose wounds inspired love or passion in his every victim. Romantic myth depicting cute baby angels with chubby cheeks and little wings who use bows and arrows to cause people to fall in love. About Verlys: The Societe Holophane Francais, established as a subsidiary of the Holophane Company, USA, in a glassworks near Rouen, northern France, in 1920, initially focused on manufacturing vehicle headlights. By 1925, their scope expanded to include the production of art glass vases and bowls, leading to the creation of the Verlys department. Initially crafting blown vessels with multiple glass layers featuring internal decorations, they shifted to high-quality press-moulded glass from 1933 onward. Verlys diversified their offerings to include clear, frosted, opalescent, and colored items adorned with designs reminiscent of Lalique-style glass from the 1930s. The repertoire included depictions of plants, flowers, birds, fish, and abstract geometric patterns. Annual catalogs showcased new designs, typically bearing a molded signature such as "Verlys," "Verlys France," or "Verlys Made in France." In 1935, "Verlys of America" was established, operating a glassworks in Newark, Ohio. Molds were sourced from France for the Ohio facility, and while some designs were shared between the French and American branches, not all were duplicated. Both locations experienced a decline in production during the war years as the company shifted focus toward industrial products. The Verlys range faced a gradual phase-out in both the USA and France from 1940, culminating in discontinuation in the States in 1951-52 and in France in the early 1960s. In 1955, a portion of the Verlys molds was leased to the Heisey glassworks, resulting in the production of Verlys designs until 1957. These pieces lacked a signature. In 1966, the remaining Verlys molds were sold to the Fenton Art Glass Company, which produced items in distinct colors from Verlys and did not utilize the Verlys name.
