About the Item
VICTORIAN SMOKING CANE WITH A ROTATING MONEY BOX AND MATCH COMPARTMENT
Unmarked, probably English; late 19th/early 20th century
35" H x 2 1/8" W
An interesting smoker's cane, the compartment at the top rotates to reveal hidden nickels for buying a cigar and the side of the handle can be withdrawn to grab a match. Situated over an ebonized tapered shaft terminating in a conforming tapered sabot.
Condition: Wear through the nickel-plating in the handle and sabot with trace oxidization and tarnish, scuffs and scratches. Shaft appears to have been refinished during the 20th century, worn with abrading as expected from gentle use.
