Antique 19th Century Malachite and Ormolu Casket

About the Item

Antique 19th century malachite and ormolu casket Russian, Mid-19th Century Height 9cm, width 21cm, depth 15cm This magnificent malachite casket celebrates the work of 19th century Russian craftsmen. Of a rectangular shape, the casket is covered in malachite. The natural colouring and patterning of the green gemstone fills all surfaces of the antique with intriguing designs. Paired with malachite are wonderfully cast ormolu mounts. Four prominent acanthus-shaped feet support the casket while two elegant borders frame the edges of the base and lid. An additional delicate ormolu garland-shaped handle is attached in the centre. The hinged lid opens to reveal a luxurious red velvet-lined interior in which other precious collectables can be stored. Crafted during the times of Imperial Russia, this superb table casket is a wonderful home décor piece.

Magnificent and large ormolu and hardstone mounted ebonized wooden casket English, 19th Century Height 41cm, width 72cm, depth 52cm Exceptionally fine and richly adorned, this beautiful piece is a large, ebonized wooden casket or coffer, mounted with extensive ormolu decorations, and inlaid on front and back with Florentine pietra dura hardstone panels. It was made in English in the early 19th century during the regency period, using a host of stylistic influences, and amalgamating various outstanding decorative techniques. The front and reverse are set with hardstone panels, depicting flowers, fruits and insects in the corners.
