This is an antique sarcophagus keepsake box. An English, rosewood and velvet lined case, dating to the late Regency period, circa 1830. Superb craftsmanship and figuring distinguish this fine glove or keepsake case Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout Select stocks present exceptional grain interest Deep caramel hues abound, to the delightful sarcophagus form Vaulted lid adorned with eye-catching gadrooning to the edges Inlaid shield escutcheon to the fascia — untested, key absent Pleasingly lined interior with a quality, later velvet finish Gently raised upon a quartet of squat bun feet This is a fine antique sarcophagus keepsake box, serving also as a quality glove box for the reception hall side table.
