Fine Carved Wood Box with Morning Glories

About the Item

This box is a real treasure! Completely had carved from walnut the detail in the flowers and leaves is quite remarkable. This box required a real master craftsman to achieve the outstanding results. In addition to the bough of flowers, there are several repeating details around the perimeter of the box including spear shaped leaves and a modified egg and dares detail. There is a keyhole and the lock is still in place though the key is no longer with the box. Another detail are the four delicate feet that the box sits on. This is a truly unique piece that has survived the test of time. In quite remarkable condition given the delicacy of the carving. Purchased from the estate of Jerry Perenchio, there is an inventory number and the note that it was from the corporate office.

This is a rare and magnificent object fashioned from a rare coco de mer nut and Ostrich egg by Antony Redmile. The box is secured to a wooden base with a silvered stand, holding both sides of the coconut. The coconut is a rich dark chocolate brown and appears to be warmly polished.
