Mid-Century Portuguese Wooden Sewing Box

About the Item

Wooden sewing box. The lid is hinged, with marquetry and in the centre is an image of an ox cart with driver, typical of the island of Madeira, decorated all around with a geometric pattern. When opened, it reveals several small compartments, ideal for storing thread, needles, thimbles, buttons and other sewing accessories, as well as an oval piece of red felt where the pins were stuck. The spaces are well divided and there are small lids with miniature handles to protect the contents. The wood has a warm colour and has been carefully crafted, with smooth finishes and well-made fittings. Signs of use.
