About the Item

this early music box plays 4 cheerful melodies on a 20.5cm cylinder as provided on the original melody card. Nicole Freres was the leading manufacturer of music boxes in the 19th century and built boxes of very good quality. This is a good example of that. The serial number 27010 dates this box before 1850, when the firm was at the highest of their abilities. The box is rather simple and therefore timeless, with only marquetry in the form of black lining on the lid and front. The whole thing, case and mechanism, was restored to its original grandeur (in our own workshop) and can guarantee another 100 years of pleasure. Ser nr 27010 Gamme nr 1014 Date of manufacture ; 1847
