Rosewood and Stumpwork Table Cabinet

About the Item

A table cabinet parquetry-veneered in rosewood on the outside and opening (both with a hinged lid and front) to reveal a fitted interior with stumpwork-fronted drawers. The stumpwork embroidery depicts birds, trees, and flowers and is surrounded by ebonized moldings. The underside of the lid retains the original mirror flanked by stumpwork panels. The inside of the front panel is covered in an old paper lining. The presence of the mirror seems to indicate this would have been used as a jewelry box or possibly a cosmetics box. The lock and brass loop handles on the sides are replacements.
