Silver and Shagreen Cutlery, Etui, and Travel Cutlery Netherlands, 18th century  An exotic and luxurious 18th-century silver and green cutlery etui from the Netherlands is a remarkable example of fine travel cutlery. Measuring 6 inches wide with a 1-inch general diameter, this two-piece set includes a knife and fork, both housed in an oblong, book-matched shagreen case with a silver latch. The case features two compartments, ensuring the secure storage of each utensil. The 4.75-inch-long knife boasts a silver handle adorned with repousséd Chinoiserie landscape medallions at the top and a steel blade. It bears two hallmarks, including the 'Andreas Crosses' (three crosses) used in the 18th century, with the other hallmark unidentified. The 4.5-inch-long fork's tines are made of silver, and its ferrule also bears two unidentified silver hallmarks. The exquisite craftsmanship and detailing reflect the opulence and attention to detail characteristic of the period.
