About the Item
Amusing Majolica monkey pianist tobacco jar Sarreguemines, circa 1880.Rarely found complete with his lid ,he wear a costume of Oriental style, he play piano and two books are represented with the titles
"opera" and "themes."
This is a good example of anthromorphism in the 19th century Art, however this artistic movement was present before particularly in 18th century with the porcelain musiciens monkeys of the manufacture of Meissen.
An exemplar of this piece is exhibited in the Museum of Sarreguemines without his lid.
