English Georgian Yew Wood Octagonal Tea Caddy with Oval Inlays on Five Sides

About the Item

English Georgian Period yew wood octagonal tea caddy with oval inlays on five sides. The ovals are incased by a line inlay made up of tiny squares of sycamore, satinwood and rosewood and further encircled by a very fine boxwood single line inlay. The edges of each of the eight panels are set off by satinwood stringing. The two interior tea compartments are lidded with yew wood, this time edged with sycamore stringing set off by delicate boxwood stringing. The interior of each compartment has remnants of the old foil lining, but also has some newer foil lining; neither have been touched, they have been left "as is" to reflect that this tea caddy has been used for tea storage for most of its life. This caddy is in superb condition, circa 1790.
