About the Item

"Fortune" Candle Holder by Russian-French artist and designer Romain de Tirtoff, known as Erté. This candelabra is crafted in cold-painted and partially gilt bronze, numbered 87/395 from the 1987 limited edition series. It is signed by Erté. Erté was a versatile artist who worked across fashion, jewelry design, graphic arts, and stage and costume design. His sculptures are often characterized by elegant, stylized figures, heavily influenced by the Art Deco movement. "Fortune" exemplifies his distinctive artistic style, seamlessly blending aesthetics with functionality. Erté (1892–1990). Born Romain de Tirtoff in imperial St. Petersburg, Russia, he adopted the name Erté from the French pronunciation of his initials, "R.T." Throughout his long and distinguished career, he played a pivotal role in shaping 20th-century design. His creations left an indelible mark not only on theater, film, and fashion but also on an entire artistic movement. His vast body of work remains one of the most influential and unique of the 20th century, earning him the title "Father of Art Deco." This piece comes with a certificate from Dyansen Gallery, New York, confirming its edition number 87/395. Inscription: Incised with the artist’s signature and edition number.
