About the Item
Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1799 by John Green & Co., this elegant pair of George III period, Sterling Silver three-light candelabra exhibit refined neoclassical design, with tapering columns, reeded detailing, and detachable arms and nozzles for versatility in use and display. The candelabra are engraved with an original crest.
Each candelabrum measures 16.5 inches (42 cm) tall, by 17.5 inches (44.5 cm) wide, by 5.5 inches (14 cm) deep. They are filled for balance, giving them a satisfying weight and stability when in use.
Maker’s Note
John Green & Co. was a well-regarded silversmithing firm operating in Sheffield during the late 18th century. As one of the early makers to benefit from Sheffield’s Assay Office, established in 1773, the firm produced silver of high quality and stylistic clarity. Their work exemplifies the precision and classical elegance associated with the Georgian period and contributes to Sheffield's emerging prominence in British silver manufacture during this time.
