Description
A superb pair of five-light candelabra by the renowned Portuguese royal silversmiths, Leitão & Irmão. These stately pieces combine silver and rich dark wood in a refined neoclassical design, embodying the elegance and craftsmanship for which the firm is celebrated.
The design features a fluted baluster stem surmounted by five curved arms in a symmetrical scrolled layout, each culminating in a finely chased foliate socket. The silver arms are gracefully anchored to a central urn form in polished wood, which rests on a square base adorned with silver mounts featuring classical floral medallions and corner foliate embellishments.
The tiered wooden base further enhances the architectural silhouette of the candelabra, with silver bracket feet adding both visual balance and decorative flourish. The silver detailing is crisp and expressive, showcasing the artisanal legacy of Leitão & Irmão.
Condition
Excellent overall condition with light surface wear consistent with age. One of the candle holders has undergone a small professional restoration at the socket (bobeche), which had come loose. The repair is stable and discreet, preserving the structural and visual integrity of the piece.
Notes
An exceptional and decorative pair, ideal for formal dining rooms, mantlepieces, or curated collections of European silverwork. These pieces reflect the heritage of one of Portugal’s most prestigious silversmithing houses, with royal warrants dating back to the 19th century.
