About the Item
Charming gilt and patinated bronze candlestick signed Ferville-Suan. It depicts a cherub carrying an amphora forming a finely chiseled gilt bronze candle holder. The plump angel is winged and wears a blindfold. It is an allegory of the famous expression: "love is blind."
On the terrace, a beautiful dove, a symbol of love and peace, takes flight.
Charles Georges Ferville-Suan was a French sculptor born in Le Mans (Sarthe) in 1847 and died in the same city in 1925.
He was the son of the painter Charles Suan. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of sculptor François Jouffroy. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1872 with medallions and statuettes, receiving an honorable mention. He was a member of the Society of French Artists.
