About the Item

Yerevan vase by Sanna Völker Materials: Armenian tuff & basalt (volcanic rock) Dimensions: 19 x 17 x 15 cm The Yerevan vase by Sanna Völker is a personal memoir of time spent in Armenia. A sculptural interpretation of the contrasts, shapes and materials of the architecture in the capital city, Yerevan. The piece was developed in close collaboration with Armenian stonemasons, from whom the designer gained a better understanding of the country's heritage and culture. Inspired by the idea of pressed flowers, stems are delicately held between the two intersecting stone pieces that conceal a small pool of water. The piece is handcrafted in Armenian volcanic rock (tuff and basalt). Sanna Völker is a Swedish born designer of objects and furniture who works in the interface between Scandinavia and Spain. Her designs have been exhibited in Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Brussels and Cologne. Her work can be described as a search for equilibrium between rawness and refinement, harmony and intrigue. Her designs often draw references to architecture and brutalism, manifested in furniture and objects of pure shapes. Human intervention in nature and society is a theme that she often explores in detail. Working with natural materials her pieces consists of clean geometries coupled with timeless expression.
