An Italian 19th Century Patinated Bronze Torchere, After Niccolò Roccatagliata
By Niccolo Roccatagliata
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Large and Impressive Italian 19th Century Patinated Bronze Figural Torchere, after a model by Niccolò Roccatagliata (Genoa 1593 - Venice 1636). The triangular foot base with projecting putti supporting the stem and oval reserves within cartouche motifs, one containing the initials "S.D" with an olive tree in-between and a bull-head below. The stem knot with figures of winged caryatids and festoons and upper part with cherub heads, acanthus leaves and egg and bead patterns and topped with a later white glass globe. The decorative system refers to the documented artistic production of the Venetian workshop of Niccolò Roccatagliata and takes inspirational model from the base of the Renaissance bronze of the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro in Venice, a work signed by Andrea del Bartolomeo di Alessandri known as Brescianino. Electrified. Circa: Venice, 1850-1880. RELATED LITERATURE L. Planiscig, Venezianische Bildhauer der Renaissance, Vienna, 1921, figs. Similar models of this torchere were part of the interior decor collection at the Vanderbilt Mansion in New York (see black and white photo). The Cornelius Vanderbilt II House was a large mansion built in 1883 at 1 West 57th Street in Manhattan, New York City. It occupied the frontage along the west side of Fifth Avenue from West 57th Street up to West 58th Street at Grand Army...

Pair of Translucent Pink and White Opaline Glass Lusters, Late 19th C
Located in Queens Village, NY
These exquisite French opaline glass lusters date to the 19th century and are now available for your house. Elegant goblet-shaped lusters, hand-made in France between 1850 and 1900 and gilded in pink and white color glass, are eye-catching. These gorgeous works measure 33 x 15 cm and are sure to capture the attention of anybody who sees them. Don't pass up the chance to bring a little bit of elegance into your house with these stunning Opaline glass lusters, which are a precious and collectible historical relic. We are selling this beautiful pair on different platforms; please check availability before purchasing. More photos may be provided if necessary. Please feel free to ask any questions. Storyteller: Mr. Anderson, a successful businessman, and his daughter, Lily, made their home in a stately rural manor. Over the years, Mr. Anderson amassed a collection of rare paintings and priceless vases, which he proudly displayed in his home. Mr. Anderson was perusing an antique shop one day when he stumbled upon a pair of gorgeous French opaline glass lusters. These goblet-shaped lusters were gilded in pink and white-hued glass and hand-made in France between 1850 and 1900. Mr. Anderson bought the lusters without hesitating and carried them home to add to his collection. The moment he set them on the mantel in the living room, they commanded everyone's attention. Pink and white opaline glass sparkled in the sunshine, creating a cozy atmosphere. Like a magnet, Lily was pulled to the lusters and stared at them in awe for hours. She was captivated by the way the light reflected off the glass and highlighted the fine features of the pattern. Seeing her interest, her father proceeded to educate her about the origins of opaline glass and the meaning of its lusters. They put their heads together and discovered that opaline glass was specially designed to create elaborate chandeliers...
