About the Item

A fine cherry wood tall case clock with fretwork carved crest on the bonnet, along with three spire and ball finials with reeded wooden plinths, surmounting a glass arched door, opening to a metal faced hand painted arched dial with an oval image of a young girl with her dog over an Arabic numeral dial and small seconds dial, with gilt foliate painted spandrels and decoration, flanked by two full reeded corner columns. The waist door is arched with delicate line inlay and central foliate inlay, flanked by reeded corner columns with brass capitals. The interior of the waist door shows the New England-based Chase and Plummer family provenance along with service records for the clock. The foliate inlay is repeated on the base, which is nicely shaped, all supported by four carved splayed feet. The clock has an eight day brass movement, inscribed “Owen”. The clock case is probably Connecticut in origin, dating to the early 19th century. This beautiful clock appears to be in very good working condition, with key, two weights, brass pendulum bob, with minor craquelure on the dial, visible veneer loss on the top of the bonnet, other minor imperfections, and light wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 95 in H x 20.75 in W x 10.5 in D.
