About the Item

An Egyptian Revival Black Marble Clock Circa 1860s made by the renowned clock and jewellery makers Hamilton and Inches of Edinburgh with Royal warrant granted by Queen Victoria in 1893 . Featuring a stunning black marble case engraved with Egyptian hieroglyphics the clock is adorned with beautiful Egyptian bronze mounts and topped by a bronze statue of Lamassu , creating a truly clock . This clock, made in the 1860s, would have been among the earliest items sold by Hamilton and Inches, thereby enhancing its historical significance. Hamilton and Inches of Edinburgh still exist today and has been serving customers for over 150 years. Established in 1866, this esteemed establishment is known for its exceptional craftsmanship, elegant designs . Located in Edinburgh, Scotland, Hamilton and Inches has become synonymous with sophistication and quality . Hamilton and Inches has a rich heritage and association with the British Royal Family. With a royal warrant granted by Queen Victoria in 1893, the retailer has been entrusted with supplying the royal household ever since . A French Egyptian Revival mantel clock, dating to the mid-19th century, is made of polished black marble and patinated bronze. The clock showcases exceptional quality and craftsmanship, using the finest materials, exuding elegance and quality. Surmounted by the priestess Isis cast from bronze, adorned with a gilt headband and intricately tooled clothing, the clock demonstrates remarkable attention to detail. The clock case has a complex architectural design, flanked on each side by bronze Egyptian figures holding tablets, symbolizing the wisdom and power of ancient Egypt.
