A Spectacular Art Deco Clock Featuring the Sculpture “Waiting” by the Italian Art Deco Artist “Uriano”
Signed on the back of the lady’s dress.
This piece depicts a seated lady on the lookout, accompanied by her two Greyhounds or Borzoi.
The cold-painted spelter sculptures are mounted on a marble and onyx clock case.
A highly collectible item of exceptional quality. The sculpture is referenced in the book Dictionnaire Illustré des Sculptures Animalières & Fondeurs de l’Antiquité à Nos Jours by Jean Charles Hachet (Argus Valentines).
Rarely offered for sale in clock form.
The original French 8-day striking movement is in good working order.
The entire piece is in good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use to the clock case. It comes with its original pair of clock garnitures.

Uriano (Ugo Cipriani)
Italian sculptor born in Florence on 13 August 1897, passed away in Paris in June 1960. He studied at the renowned Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a sculptor, he left Italy for France around 1935–1937 to escape Mussolini’s fascist regime. He became a political refugee in Paris, where he continued to practise his craft until his death.

Ugo Cipriani
Ugo Cipriani is the 5th child of a sibship of nine. He lives in the Oltrarno district of Borgo San Frediano. After studying at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, Cipriani worked with marble, terracotta, bronze and alabaster in the spirit of the 1920s Art Deco movement. One of his most famous works, a bronze monument (1919) by the Italian nationalist and irredentist Guglielmo Oberdan is on the square of the same name, in Florence. In 1935, Cipriani emigrated to France to escape the fascist regime of Mussolini. He lives in Paris as a political refugee and continues to create there until he died in 1960.
