About the Item

A Spectacular Art Deco Clock Featuring the Sculpture “Waiting” by the Italian Art Deco Artist “Uriano” Signed on the back of the lady’s dress. This piece depicts a seated lady on the lookout, accompanied by her two Greyhounds or Borzoi. The cold-painted spelter sculptures are mounted on a marble and onyx clock case. A highly collectible item of exceptional quality. The sculpture is referenced in the book Dictionnaire Illustré des Sculptures Animalières & Fondeurs de l’Antiquité à Nos Jours by Jean Charles Hachet (Argus Valentines). Rarely offered for sale in clock form. The original French 8-day striking movement is in good working order. The entire piece is in good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use to the clock case. It comes with its original pair of clock garnitures. Dimensions: Clock: Length: 63 cm, Depth: 21 cm, Height: 46 cm Garnitures: Length: 11 cm, Depth: 8.5 cm, Height: 16 cm Uriano (Ugo Cipriani) Italian sculptor born in Florence on 13 August 1897, passed away in Paris in June 1960. He studied at the renowned Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a sculptor, he left Italy for France around 1935–1937 to escape Mussolini’s fascist regime. He became a political refugee in Paris, where he continued to practise his craft until his death.
