About the Item

A large and stunning original antique French clock of the highest quality. It depicts Cupid among the clouds, carrying a flaming torch with which to enflame his victims with love and a bow from which he has fired an arrow. Between his arms is a bird, allegorical of love. Beautifully modelled in ormolu (finely gilded bronze) and mounted on a white marble base. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with finely cut gilt hands. The dial is signed for the retailer H.A. Kloosterhuis of Amsterdam. The French movement is of high quality and is by Vincenti. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration, just some occasional rubbing on the high spots. The marble is also in excellent condition with some tiny nibbles to the edges and some slight discolouration. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles next to the winding holes. Vincenti et Cie clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate H A Kloosterhuis, Amsterdam, Retailer's signature to the dial Signature to the underside of the bronze. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required. Dimensions of clock: Inches height 17 1/2", width 11 1/2", depth 7" Centimetres height 45 cm, width 29 cm, depth 18 cm.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Fully working. Gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration, rubbing on the high spots. The marble has some tiny nibbles to the edges and some slight discolouration. The dial - some nibbles next to the winding holes.
