French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Belle Époque Period Ormolu Clock

About the Item

An exquisite French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period ormolu clock. The clock is raised by elegant block feet with fine fluted and les oves designs. Impressive mirrored Vitruvian scrolls extend along the straight apron below an exceptional richly chased tied oak leaf and acorn band. At the center is a charming and finely detailed plaque of cherubs looking through a telescope and playing with a map and a globe flanked by large rosettes in a beautiful satin and burnished finish. The white enameled dial displays fine pierced foliate ormolu hands, Roman numerals, and a lovely les oves designed bezel. At each side are wonderful richly chased winged cherubs playing with a bird and a flute sitting on impressive fluted architectural columns with striking scrolled foliate elements leading upwards. Above is the superb urn of prosperity adorned with richly chased swaging berried laurel garlands tied with a ribbon at the center and leading to impressive scrolled handles at each side centering the charming finely detailed foliate finial. All original gilt throughout.
