About the Item

A large and stunning antique French gilt bronze Baroque clock, dating from 1900. It is styled with profuse acanthus decoration applied to the architecturally shaped case. The front is fretted with scrolling acanthus to allow the pendulum to be seen swinging within. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper with red half-hour markers and a gilt bronze centre. It is complete with blued steel hands and convex glass. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen, for example if the clock were displayed in the centre of a room or in front of a mirror. The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and is of the maker's usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available of the clock running. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles around the winding holes and a faint hairline near the 12 o'clock. The glass has some small chips to the edges. A. D. Mougin clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required. Dimensions of clock: Inches height 19 1/2", width 11", depth 5 1/2" centimetres height 49.5 cm, width 28 cm, depth 14 cm.

Wear consistent with age and use. Fully working and tested. Original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. The dial has some tiny nibbles around the winding holes and a faint hairline near the 12 o'clock. The glass has some small chips.
