Late 19th Century Rocaille Ormolu Mantel Clock with Floral Decoration

About the Item

Mantel clock in gilt and sculpted bronze featuring abundant Rocaille motifs such as rinceaux, shells, distressed leaves, and scrollwork. Putti engaged in activities such as reading, fishing, or playing music complete the decor that is characteristic of the Louis XV style. Three painted panels featuring multicolored floral motifs decorate the main facade and the two sides. The clock and its support, upheld by Triton and a Nereid, is set on a sculpted base that is embellished with gadrooned foliage, garlands of flowers, and sea creatures, circa 1880.
