Regency Brass Inlaid Mahogany Eight Day Timepiece Bracket Clock

$7,898.86

About the Item

A small sized Regency brass inlaid mahogany eight day timepiece bracket clock made by Carter from Leamington Spa, England in the 1820's. The case is of an attractively smaller size with beautiful proportions. The mahogany is richly figured with a floral brass inlay to the brass fielded inset quarter panels. The brass cornucopia side carrying handles above silk backed brass fish scale frets and finely gadrooned top is surmounted by a cast brass pineapple finial, the whole surmounted on brass feet. The case has a wonderful rich colour with beautiful figuring to the veneers. The brass has aged to a warm golden hue. The 6 inch painted convex Roman dial is signed ‘Carter, Leamington’ and displays blued steel spade hands. The movement has a single line fusee movement with lovely bottle-shaped plates, anchor escapement and original shaped pendulum. During the Regency period many fine clocks were made, particularly bracket and wall clocks with the introduction of the brass inlay. White dials had become more popular than brass dials during this period. This bracket clock would make a very handsome additional to the home or office.
