About the Item

Viennese Gorgeous mantle (Mantel) / table chiming clock, having alabaster columns. Explanation: Mantel clocks — or shelf clocks — are house clocks traditionally placed on the shelf, or mantel, above the fireplace. Manufactory: Viennese manufactory. Finest quality. Dating: circa 1830-1840 Material: Wood solid and veneered (= clock case and parts below), partly ebonized. Sculptured decorations are covered with gold-leaf. Enamel: clock face (clock dial) Brass and ormolu (= gilt bronze): applications & decorations (cherub on clock face, for example) Alabaster: decorations (columns) Glass: door of clockface and three-part mirror attached to background of clockcase Measures: height: 56.0 cm / 22.04 inches width: 32.0 cm / 12.59 inches depth: 11.0 cm / 4.33 inches Specifications: This outstanding gorgeous Viennese mantle/mantel chiming clock's dial is protected by a glass door. The mentioned clock's dial is manufactured in following manner: It has a ring made of enamel on which Latin numerals are visible; additionally, middle area of movable clockface depicts a cherub as blacksmith, being busy with pounding on anvil. The clockface is framed by a ring made of brass as well as it is flanked by a pair of sculptured griffons and topped by sculptured eagle situated on sphere. The mantle clock's part below consists of alabaster columns bounding the front side which is similar to a stage having a ground floor; there are mirrors attached to the tripartite back side, a fact causing a very interesting spatial effect of three-dimensional dimensions ! Further we're pointing out the wonderful ormolu mountings (fire gilded) attached to surface of clock's case: Various figural as well as floral ornaments are visible. A key for winding up the clock's mechanism is existing. The mechanism (spring balancer) is working two days before it should be wound up again. The clock has one pendulum shaped as sun. The clock is chiming every half an hour. Condition: The movement is securely attached to the clock's case / it is in excellent condition. The original clockwork (display for minutes and hours) is in working order and it runs well. The clockwork was checked by clockmaker and was cleaned, too.
