About the Item

Subject: Viennese gorgeous Mantel / mantle / table chiming clock, main parts made of wood. - Clock's wooden parts are gilt. - Explanation: Mantel clocks — or shelf clocks — are house clocks traditionally placed on the shelf, or mantel, above the fireplace. Manufactory: Viennese manufactory The clockwork is signed: 'Matthias Müllner in Wien' (= Matthias Muellner in Vienna) finest quality. Dating: Made circa 1780-1810. Material: Wood (limewood / basswood) / gilt: The clock's case and cherub's figurine with socle. Enamel: Clockface (clock dial). Glass: Door of clockface (clock dial). Brass: Bezel of clock's door. Mechanism: spring mechanism / tension. so-said Viennese striking mechanism. (four times striking per hour: The clockface has three holes for winding up). Measures: Height: 20.47 inches. Width: 15.74 inches. Depth: 7.08 inches. Specifications: This most remarkable Viennese mantle/mantel clock's dial is protected by a glass door / the clockface is made of enamel / the bezel of glass door is made of brass (Arabic numerals on dial existing). The movement is securely attached to the clock's case / it is in excellent condition. The original clockwork (display for minutes, hours and date the clock's hands are made of steel) is in working order (the clock has one pendulum shaped as sun). The clock's wooden case (made of limewood / basswood) is dominated by large dial attached to middle area / additionally, the clock's chest is supported at lateral area and at base by forms having the appearance of layered stony wodges on which a pair of pigeons has taken place ... a tall sculptured cherub's figurine flanks the clock's dial at its right side: AMOR having spread wings supports itself on clock's chest (the figurine has movable eyes which are running when the clock's mechanism is working). Both - clock's chest and sculptured AMOR figurine - are attached to rectangular black sockle standing on four lion's paws. A key for winding up the clock's mechanism is preserved. Condition: Good. The clock's mechanism is working / the clock's original condition has never been changed. - The cherub's figurine has some slight signs of wear (the cherub's forefinger of right hand is missing), apart from that, there aren't any damages existing.
