This Egyptian Revival clock garniture by J. E. Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia is almost identical to the set that is housed in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Composed of a clock and two obelisks, this garniture is crafted of bronze and rare Breccia and Siena marbles in the form of Egyptian monuments. Surmounted by a sphinx, the timepiece tells the time with hands shaped like Egyptian gods and a unique set of numerals, while the obelisks are adorned with hieroglyphics, divine figures and cow’s heads accents, circa 1885 Measures: Obelisks: 23 1/4” high Clock: 21” wide x 7 3/4” deep x 19” high Venerable American jeweler J. E. Caldwell & Co. from Philadelphia is known for its Art Nouveau and Deco jewels. Founded in 1839 by James Emmott Caldwell, the company supplied wealthy Philadelphians with stylish European jewelry, silver, and objets d'art.
