19th Century Northern Swedish Painted Wood Floor Clock with Unique Crest
Located in Atlanta, GA
A 19th century Northern Swedish clock an exaggerated bonnet/crest. This handsome Swedish clock is very special, it was obtained in Northern Sweden and features a distinct and uniquely adorn crest, which we lovingly refer to as "Napoleon" as we find it reminiscent of a bircorn (a two-cornered/horned twill military hat). The crest is further designed in a ridged pattern, with a pierced keyhole or escutcheon at it's center. There is a carved fan motif about the neck, with molded accents above and accentuating the waist. This nicely curved clock, rests on a mostly flat base with a pair of petite star carved scrolls at it's center. This clock has an old scraped finish with traces of greyish/ blue/green tones showing throughout.
This clock would be a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains it's original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition, but can be quartzed to keep perfect time, for an additional cost. A quartz battery would then be added behind the face. The original hands are too heavy to carry the quartz movement, so they would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This Swedish 1820s Fryksdahl clock with lions...

Louis XVI Style Champlevé Enamel and Gilt-Bronze Mantel Clock, circa 1880
By LeRoy
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
An exceptional Louis XVI style champlevé enamel and gilt-bronze mantel clock with finely painted neoclassical scenes by Leroy & Fils.
French, circa 1880.
Stamped to the movement ‘LEROY & FILS A PARIS, 823’.
This fine gilt-bronze and champlevé enamel clock has an arched case with outset bulbous columns to the angles, it is surmounted by a drum top with a pierced scroll and ball finial and applied with expressive cherub mounts. The front and sides of the clock are all exceptionally finely painted with neoclassical scenes of figures in an architectural setting and the top and base enriched with fine polychrome champlevé enamel.
The clock has an enamelled chapter ring with Roman numerals interspersed with anthemion devices and a twin barrelled, eight-day movement striking on a bell.
The firm of Leroy et Fils was founded by Bazile Charles Leroy in 1789. He was a clockmaker to the Emperor Napoléon, The Duke of Orleans, The Duke of Bourbon and Princess Pauline. In 1823, he filed a patent for self-winding atmospheric clock operated by weathervane and in 1840 a patent for wind clocks. When Charles Louis died in 1865 his son Louis Leroy...

Buschman “Minerva” German Horizontal Table Clock
Located in New Orleans, LA
The extraordinary beauty and superior craftsmanship of 17th century German clockmaking is on full display in this exceptionally rare horizontal tabletop timepiece dating to 1650 Augsburg. Created by Johannes Buschman the Younger, the eminent Buschman family of clockmakers are lauded for designing some of the finest timepieces to ever be created in the South German town of Augsburg during the late Renaissance and early Modern periods. A finely moulded ebony and turtleshell casing veneered in a mottled red hue holds the clock’s fusée and chain movement with verge escapement and balance with hogs-bristle regulation. A silver figure of Minerva, Roman goddess of war and wisdom, centers the Roman numeral-engraved chapter ring, indicating the time by pointing to the hour with an authoritative military staff as the sun rotates below her feet to indicate the minute. The incredible design is finished by a gilded backplate intricately pierced and engraved with a floral motif and the signature of Johannes Buschman.
Clocks are one of the greatest and most important inventions of the Renaissance period, improving steadily into the Age of Discovery. Embodying a renewed interest in science, the arts and humanism, the first mechanical timepieces began appearing in the 14th century and were large, weight-driven devices placed in the turrets of public buildings that struck the hour and lacked hands and faces. This clock was created during the first period of household clocks, when spring-driven movements made it possible to create smaller and more complex mechanisms. Such creations, however, were a luxury accessible only to the wealthy upper classes. Affluent patrons placed pressure upon artisans to create more elaborate and ornate clocks...
