A rare Jaeger- LeCoultre gilded Atmos clock
About the Item
The Atmos clock went into production in 1936 after several years in design by Jean-Leon Reutter. The clock is driven by small changes in temperature, with the hermetically sealed capsule containing a mixture of gas and liquid which expands and contracts as the temperature rises and falls, with a change of as little as one degree enough to power the clock for two days. As result, the clock can effectively run indefinitely with no maintenance. The Swiss-made inner workings of the clock are of the highest precision and practically wear-free. It is said that an Atmos clock only requires a full service every six hundred years.
