Jaeger LeCoultre, Atmos Clock, Jubilé, manufactured in 1979

About the Item

Jaeger LeCoultre - Atmos Jubilé Switzerland Gold-plated brass Year of manufacture 1979 Dimensions: H x W x D: 24 x 17 x 15 cm Description: Very rare Atmos clock, which was produced in a limited series of only 1500 pieces. In honour of the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the first Atmos pendulum clock by Jean-Leon Reutter in 1929, the model called "Jubilé" was introduced in 1979 and offered in the catalogues under Ref. No. 5861. Each Atmos Jubilé was given its own number, which was engraved on a small plaque. The clock offered here bears the number 1407 (of 1500). The design was inspired by the Atmos K2 from 1931 and is characterised by the heavy screws on the outside of the rotating pendulum and the full dial. The hands without visible counterweights are also striking. Calibre 550 was created especially for this clock. The movement was given the appearance of the old ATMOS I calibre, but the mercury motor used at the time was replaced by the modern chloroethyl motor still in use today. The five-sided glazed case provides a clear view of the clean movement. The blued screws contrast beautifully with the golden metal. The glass of the front door bears the original "Jaeger LeCoultre" imprint. The original accompanying brochure with lots of interesting information about Atmos clocks in general and the Jubilé in particular is included. Interesting facts: The movement of the clock stands out with its cylindrical case on the back. It contains the saturated gas chloroethyl in a bellows-shaped expansion chamber. Under fixed pressure conditions, the ratio between liquid and gas changes significantly under the influence of temperature fluctuations, and consequently the pressure in the expansion chamber also changes. A temperature change of 1°C displaces the base of the bellows by approximately one millimetre, thereby exerting pressure on a spring in the bellows. The chain mounted on the spring transmits the force to the movement and thus supplies the energy for approx. 48 hours of running time. Condition: Very well-preserved case with minimal signs of age and wear. The movement is in impeccable condition, it runs absolutely reliably and accurately. The Atmos Jubilé is illustrated in the reference book: Jean Lebet - Living on Air p.71
