About the Item
Bronze sculpture with brown patina including a clock and signed Auguste Moreau. It features a woman wearing a flowing dress who is standing on a globe. The title printed on a small plaque reads: SÉLÉNÉ par Aug. MOREAU and is annotated with: Récompensé au Salon (Rewarded at the Salon). In Greek mythology, Selene, the goddess of the moon, is the sister of Helios (the Sun) and Eos (the dawn). She is generally described as a beautiful woman with a dazzlingly white face, clothed with long flowing robes.
