French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Gris St. Anne Marble and Ormolu Pedestal Clock

About the Item

An elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Gris St. Anne marble and ormolu pedestal clock. The rectangular shaped pedestal clock is raised by ormolu topie shaped legs below a mottled band. The protruding center has metal dial with roman numerals below a richly chased ormolu bow. Below the dial is a draped ormolu mount with laurel branches on both sides. Flanking both sides of the dial are recessed fitted ormolu plaques, in the manner of Clodion, of playful cherubs. On both sides are handsome rectangular plaques with foliate scrolls surrounding the head of a lion with a beaded ring in its mouth. The top shelf is bordered by a beaded band while the lower flanking shelves are with a palmette designed band. All original gilding throughout.
