About the Item

A striking and very high quality French 19th century Renaissance st. Rouge Griotte marble, patinated bronze, and ormolu garniture clock set. The clock at the center is raised by handsome lions paw feet amidst fine scrolled movements. The rectangular Rouge Griotte marble base displays a finely chased wrap around ormolu band with intricately detailed scrolled foliate designs in a rich satin and burnished finish. At the center is the striking ormolu clock face with pierced hands, Roman numerals, and a lovely beaded border with a Pharaoh's head to the right. A finely detailed beautiful maiden is seated above draped in a wonderfully executed flowing period garment with a striking wreath in her hair and holding an ormolu plaque. At each side are impressive urns each raised by square Rouge Griotte bases decorated with finely detailed wrap around foliate bands. Above the square central supports are the striking patinated bronze urns with beautifully detailed foliate designs and stunning scrolled ormolu acanthus leaf arms which lead up each side in a superb satin and burnished finish. All original gilt throughout. Urn dimensions: H: 12.25" L: 10.75" D: 7.75".

A striking and most decorative French 19th century Neo-Classical st. ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble three piece garniture set signed Japy Frères. The impressive clock, which Japy Frères won a gold metal for this clock in 1855, at the center is raised by a rectangular Rouge Griotte marble base with fine bun feet and a striking wrap around Coeur de Rai and pierced palmettes bands at the mottled border. The white enameled clock face displays pierced hands and Roman hour numerals set within the mottled ormolu bezel with intricately detailed beaded and foliate designs with two charming and most unique butterflies. A beautiful maiden is seated above draped in a wonderfully executed flowing garment while breastfeeding a charming winged cherub with an anchor, a quiver, and an ewer at their side.
