Germany Pforzheim 1918 Art Deco Guilloché Enameled Geometric Clock .935 Sterling

About the Item

An art deco miniature boudoir desk clock. Extremely beautiful miniature desk clock, made in Pforzheim Germany during the art deco period, back in the 1920. The craftsmanship of this boudoir clock is exceptional, crafted with gorgeous geometric deco patterns, in solid sterling silver .935/.999 with polished finish. It is mounted in a rectangular beveled base which is surmounted in two pyramidal shaped pedestals carved with floriated motifs. The case is completely embellished with engine turned Guilloche designs, which are topped with applications of mainly vivid yellow and accents of navy royal blue color glass enamels. Dial: The dial is round, made of white porcelain with gilded dotted batons, analog with black Arabic numbers. Blued steel Breguet hands, unsigned as usual. Movement: Swiss, Mechanical 8 days, double key winding. Weight: 215.20 Grams, (137.95 Dwt). Measurements: 75 mm by 42 mm by 108 mm (2.93 x 1.65 x 4.25 Inches). Hallmarks: The case is stamped with German post 1886 marks, the maker's mark ZT inside a squared cartouche, the mark for the assay of the .935 silver and the mark of the crown with the crescent quarter moon. German Hallmarks The German hallmarking system was unified in 1888 (Decree January 7, 1886) adopting the national mark "Crescent and crown" (Halbmond und Reichskrone) for silver and the "Sun and Crown" (Sonne und Reichskrone) for gold. Silver fineness is expressed in thousands with a minimum silver content of 800/1000, but 830, 835, 900, 925 and 935 purities are also used. The alphabetic or figural maker's symbol complete the hallmark. This system, still active in present days, is used for cutlery, plates or other silverware. In the area of silver jewellery only the silver content mark is more often present. Guilloché This technique is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue. Note: The case and the clock movement has been professionally cleaned and serviced. Clock is in excellent working condition. The silver has not been polished to preserve the patina, in original excellent antique condition. Collateral: This clock is accompanied by the keys for the winding and set the hour. Condition: The overall condition of this clock is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. The enamel is in perfect condition. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. INVENTORY REF: D032724MAEN/6.382
