About the Item

This is a mid-19th century cartel, or wall clock, is in the style of Louis XV with a lovely feather and floral motif as well as the traditional swirls and curves of the Rococo style. The movement was made by the Japy Bros. Co. of Paris France, circa 1850, and is a replica of a Medal of Honor winning movement. The case Is by Schindler of Metz (northeast France) who's name appears on the hand painted porcelain enamel dial & was the original foundry. The case is made of Bronze Ormolu, ( gold fired on solid bronze from which the gold has faded , leaving a dull gold. ) We had the movement restored and adjusted by Alberto's Clocks here in Florida. It now keeps the time very well . A cartel clock is a variation of the traditional French mantel clock, with the same workings and pendulum , with a key to wind it weekly . The difference being that it hangs on the wall rather than sitting on a mantel (fireplace) or desk. This clock has been restored magnificently. Papers from the 1960s until now are available on request. This clock keeps perfect time , chimes on the hour and the half hour and must be wound with the (included) key once a week. The price reflects the fact that I was unable to find a local founder to have the bronze case re-gilt which would make the clock spectacular. After Shipping, As with all antique clocks , even well packed ones , the clock may need to be professionally adjusted to keep the correct time after being shaken about during its journey. (It's just a possibility , but we prefer to let you know ).
