Anthroposophical Rudolf Steiner School Desk Organizer Smokers Stand 1920s

About the Item

A spectacular sculptural anthroposophical carved wood desk organizer or smokers stand attributed to the Rudolf Steiner workshop in Dornach circa 1920s. A magnificent piece of craftsmanship with a distinct anthroposophical flair. The extremely fine detailed carved surface giving the stand a sense of organic, flowing movement. Rudolf Steiner was a renowned philosopher, educator, and artist who founded the anthroposophical movement. As an artist, Steiner was known for his carved wooden sculptures, which were often inspired by the principles of anthroposophy and the natural world. Steiner's carvings were typically made from rich, dark woods like walnut or oak, and featured intricate details and organic shapes. Many of his sculptures depicted human figures or animals, and were designed to express spiritual or philosophical concepts. One of Steiner's most famous works is the wooden sculpture known as "The Representative of Humanity," which is located in the Goetheanum building in Dornach, Switzerland. This sculpture depicts a man and a woman standing back to back, with their arms outstretched and their heads tilted upward. The figure is meant to represent the potential for human development and spiritual growth. In addition to his sculptures, Steiner also designed and created furniture, including chairs and tables with unique, flowing shapes and intricate carvings. He believed that the design and construction of furniture could have a profound impact on the health and well-being of the people who used it, and his designs often incorporated elements of natural materials like wood and stone. Overall, Rudolf Steiner's carvings were highly innovative and expressive, and continue to inspire artists and designers around the world. His work reflects his deep commitment to the principles of anthroposophy, as well as his love of beauty and craftsmanship.
