Whimsical yet elegant, this “Acquario in vetro di Murano” aquarium paperweight by master glassmaker Cristian Tagliapietra is a joyful expression of Murano glass artistry. Entirely handcrafted in his Murano glass studio using the traditional lampwork technique, the piece features two vivid red fish with animated, wide-eyed expressions, suspended in crystal-clear glass against swirling blue and aqua currents. The composition combines humor and elegance—hallmarks of Tagliapietra’s ability to infuse narrative into glass.
This work exemplifies the Venetian tradition of lampworked sculpture, where rods of colored and clear glass are melted in the flame and shaped into precise figures and miniature scenes. Lampwork, a centuries-old Murano technique, allows the artisan to form delicate details directly in the flame. Here, the contrast of the lively red fish against the dynamic spirals of blue captures both energy and personality, giving the piece striking visual depth.
