About the Item

An abstract bronze sculpture, entitled Spaziale, on bronze base. Signed A. Fiorese, Italy, Circa 1975 In Stock. Amedeo Fiorese was born in Bassano del Grappa on 12 February 1939 and already started sculpting as a child. He was only six years old when he dug by hand in search of clay on the banks of the river Brenta, so that he could model the figures for a crib that was very much appreciated by his parish priest. At 17, he won the first Triveneto Vase Competition organised in Nove and was approached by the committee director, Giorgio Wenter Marini, who first investigated his potential, then supported him, helping him enrol at theCarmini School of Art in Venice. In the first year, two of his sculptural and ceramic works were selected by Giorgio Wenter Marini from the ones created by the entire 1,140 students attending the course, to illustrate the school’s postcards. After completing his artistic studies in Venice in 1958, he took a Bachelor of Education in Padua in 1963, then embarked on a twenty-year career teaching in a succession of middle and secondary schools. At the same time, he experimented with new materials, turning out works in ceramics, stoneware, porcelain, bronze, gold, resins, paint and marble. One of the fundamental milestones that helped Fiorese mature as an artist was the time he spent in the seventies at the Bonvicini foundry in Verona, where he had an opportunity to learn new methods and work elbow-to-elbow with such great masters as Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Pablo Picasso, Giacomo Manzù and Alberto Viani. In 1956, he embarked on what was to become a lifetime of continuous exhibitions in one-man and group shows in Italy and abroad, winning important national and international awards and acknowledgments. Notably, these include the second prize at the “Craft Competition” Ceramics Exhibition at the International Salon in Vicenza (1956); the E.N.A.P.I. Silver Medal at the II National Ceramics Exhibition in Gubbio (1957); participation in three successive editions of the Venice Biennale (1958, 1960 and 1962); a Personal exhibition at the Gallery Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice (1960); the XXXIII International Contemporary Ceramic Art Competition in Faenza in 1975, from whose catalogue he was selected by the Japanese committee to show at the International Ceramic Arts Exhibition of Chunichi throughout the course of 1976 in the cities of Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka and Kanasawa; a Personal exhibition at the Royal Palace in Monza in 1975; the Gold Medal at the XXXIV International Contemporary Ceramic Art Competition in Faenza (1976); a Diploma of Honour at the XVI National Ceramics Exhibition in Castellamonte (Turin, 1976); the Italia Award for Small Bronze and Sculpture at the I National Exhibition in Palazzo Doria, Genoa (1977); the Special Award for Sculpture at the II International Jacopo da Ponte Award (1977); an invitation to take part in the IV International Small Dante Bronze Biennale in Ravenna (1979); the commission received in 1999 from theDiocesan Committee for Sacred Art and Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage, in Rome, to take care of the artistic aspects of the interior of the new church of St. Vincent in Thiene; and the Fine Arts Promotional Award at the Artistic Ceramics for Genoa 2004 event, held in the framework of the city’s year as European Cultural Capital; in November 2006, the sculpture Conversation was unveiled in a roundabout in the centre of Creazzo.
